International Airport Open House I attended the Open House on the 25th of September, 1999. The area should be familiar to everyone. Ed and I went over to the airport around 12:00 p.m. It was a little cool, but not overly so. They had a small collection of military and civilian aircraft. Dad should be happy to know there was a KC-135 on display. The Young Eagles were also giving flights to kids, and the Spirt of Freedom - a historic aircraft relating to the Berlin Airlift - was open for display as well as plane rides. The Northwoods had a large concrete barbecue grilling chicken; it was reminiscent of the old K.I. Chicken Barbecue days. That was the first thing we smelled when Ed and I arrived, so we were sure to have lunch. In addition, I had a corn on the the cob and a Brat that tasted like pig feed. The airport looks very nice. There are three gates, sectioned off for access to ticketed passengers only. I don't like that they're still doing that. Real airports don't prevent passengers from being in the gate area (update: everyone can now enter the gate area). The airport should be a nice port that's only five minutes from house. I'm happy it's there.
